I'd have preferred your church group. Aside from cub/boy scouts, my 'youth ministry' church group was sitting in a circle playing guitar and singing praise songs and reading passages every week. We would also practice skits, short plays and situational scenarios to teach love, friendship and forgiveness. We would then go to other parishes and large 100k person super church gatherings to act them out on stage while the church raked in 10s to 100s of thousands from donations.
One thing I learned was that "organized religion" and faith are not at all related, and one is usually the antithesis of the other.
