A while back I fell on a hard surface and busted the skin open down to the bone, and the doctor was great, allowing me to not get any antibiotic etc., just stitch the skin up and be done. Told me what to watch for in case there was an infection. It's not like our genes haven't stood the test of time for handling injuries.
