Many of the vehicles I see abandoned appear to have been poorly maintained. It's likely that the person couldn't afford to maintain it, and can't afford to fix it.

I've often thought that getting a tow truck and sticking a magnetic sign on it would be a good idea. Change the sign every week, free cars for recycling or for the chopshop if useful.

I’ve thought of doing that. But instead of stealing the car from the owner, move it to a safe place, contact them, and offer a reasonable recovery, storage, and possibly repair fee.

Police impound and no-consent tow companies are mostly scams. Unless there is actual crime, there’s no reason to profit so much off someone being broke.

Too hard to do in reality. But maybe someone could make a movie of some vigilante that goes out and does normal shit anyone can do, but briniest don’t because they’d get arrested. No super human strength or speed or anything. Maybe a super power of Get out of jail free card

Many of the vehicles I see abandoned here probably aren't going to be repairable without some serious scratch, if you'd want to repair them at all. A lot of them would be taken off the road in other states, but Ohio has a "If you can drive it, you can drive it" mentality.

About once a week put a new sign on the truck. Just a bit of fnord there to keep people guessing.
