If you've ever made your own hamburger patties, then you know the difference. I've seen egg, oatmeal, mustard, potatoe starch, breadcrumbs, etc put into hamburger.

Aren't those called Salisbury steaks?

They are very similar and may not have a difference at all depending on the recipe itself. Hamburger steak is usually served with a hamburger bun or a type of bread."

That's one definition online. So I suppose you are correct.
