I often sleep with the lights on, due to sleep paralysis.
My bed is extremely uncomfortable on purpose, I have to toss and turn throughout the night, so I never get a chance to dream too deeply.
I usually go to sleep at around midnight, and wake up at five in the morning.
Commenting bc interesting thread I want to see the ending of...
I posted some of what happened after I took the mind development course. I have more to tell. It's up above. I think I was being fucked with. I did invite one of the instructors to my home. Which in hindsight is weird. Actually, he invited himself. I was young so I agreed. He did NLP on me at my home.
Strange stuff indeed. I was part of the GATE program when younger but didn't realize it may have had a nefarious purpose much like what your instructor may have had in my mind.
May seem like an obtuse correlation, but because of that, I find it interesting how so many music icons had fathers involved in military intelligence programs during the 60s-70s

I also leave a light on so I can see in the dark if I'm awakened by some strange noise out doors. I have few neighbors. I live in the forest.
BTW, I had something similar to sleep paralysis once in the 90s. It was after I took a mind development course that I think the CIA was involved with. Happened a long time ago,but its hard to forget.
As far as sleep goes, mine is erratic. I wake, whenever I do sleep, almost every two hours.
How was the mind development course?
I was really good at it. One of the things they had us do was program our dreams. You would tell yourself you wanted to remember your dreams before bed. Then, you would have a pen and paper next to you before you slept so you could record your dreams. Long story, but I had something very odd happen to me when recording a dream. BTW, three of the instructors won the lottery programming their dreams.
They also had us intuitively diagnose people's health problems we didn't know. Then, they had us try to cure them with our minds. I was very good at diagnosing people.
I was in my 20s back then. I was naive. One of the male instructors wanted to come to my home and do NLP on me. NLP is neurolinguistic programming. I invited him to my home. Afterwards, i had some very odd experiences at my home when the course ended. These experiences didnt seem quite paranormal, but instead they seemed more technology based.
There's more though...
