I would say most, if not all, experiences can have something positive to take from. But a blessing in disguise normally means it has benefits overall when at first it was seen as bad. Something like losing a family member I would say isn't a blessing in disguise. But the response can show how we are blessed.
Not getting into the original university I wanted to attend. Led to me learning about a smaller school and the field of work it specializes in. Made 6 figures the first year coming out of the school. Only went up from there.

25 years ago, I obtained a device that I desired. But then it was "lost" by a co-worker I'd loaned it to. But the blessing in disguise was that I'd purchased the accessories for that device back in the mid-Nineties, while they were still available over the counter from the manufacturer's storefronts, and I still have all the required accessories for it, and I recently found one of the devices sitting on a curbside without any of its required accessories.
So I now have the device, plus all of the required accessories for the device, even though the accessories would be hard to find collectibles on Ebay now at premium starting prices. Because I obtained and lost the main device a quarter of a century ago.

I lost my job because I took a phone interview for another job during my 15 minute break which I didn't end up getting. The blessing was that I decided to quit smoking since I didn't have an income. I haven't had a smoke for four years now.
