I haven't bought a car since '05, but now it's time. I'm not real happy about it considering the state of the market right now, the advantage is definitely in the hands of the sellers considering the shortage, IE demand is high and supply is low (or at least, lower than usual).

I think I have my heart set on a Toyota 4 Runner or Highlander. I plan to get something gently used which is Toyota certified.

Any tips? Should I get the financing from a financial institution or through the dealer? Anything else I need to know?

I basically have until the end of august.

I'd wait. Every dealer is marking up similar vehicles 5-10k over msrp to match used prices. Your best bet is to buy new if you're looking at newer. Used prices are stupid right now, over msrp with 20k miles.

Wait until china takes over Taiwan and the chip shortage really begins

That's certainly a powerful counter argument not to be dismissed for sure!

Seriously, no sarc.

Yeah I’ve considered that. From what I’ve seen though, brand new is still more expensive than used, even if only slightly.

I guess my angle on this is that brand new will lose a ton of value the moment I drive it off the lot whereas used won’t.

The situation has me in a pickle for sure.

I wanted to wait until EOY, like I said..but then my dad pointed out that “for all you know, all of this shit may be more expensive, not less, by then.”
