On the other hand, I believe in state's rights over Federal law (in most cases). A central government was conceived to be very limited in scope and power, and is now a monster. Thoughts?

Murder is always wrong, by definition: it is the wrongful killing of another person. Whether it may be considered necessary under certain extreme circumstances is another question entirely. Being compelled to commit murder does not make murder right, although it may, by some estimations, make it necessary.
