Did you even READ your source? The colonists and Founding Fathers grew HEMP for industrial uses. There were NO dope smokers back then.

Back when I was a pothead I used all the same lame-ass justifications. Fact: psychoactive marijuana was UNKNOWN in the US til the mid 1800s. It was ONLY smoked by Mexican peasant fieldworkers. Eventually niggers started smoking it. It wasn't until the 1960s that jews started pushing it heavily in pop culture, and it spread like wildfire. Before that, it was hard to find, heavily shunned and stigmatized, and shit quality anyway.
