They bought a bunch of homes in smaller cities at big city prices. They did get more home/sqft, but once those remote work jobs die, they'll be stuck trying to find local IT work. It's there, but it won't pay the six figures they were getting. That $1900 mortgage will quickly turn into a default unless they take roommates or something. So more houses for regular people? Of course not. They're not going to sell at that kind of loss. Larger corpos will buy them for more than what the locals will. They still lose money, lose their home, and now have to rent and take IT jobs at local rates, if they can get them, from an over-saturated market.
