Dad jokes and puns are just a mental interrupt, a logical conflict. But to get a real belly laugh, someone in the joke gets hurt or embarrassed or otherwise upset. That sounds terrible but laughter is how humans share the pain. The joke you just made isn't super-funny, because it's a meta-joke; the people who'd get upset would be conservative christians who'd get mad at your even creating mental images of Jesus that way.
