I should have learned welding, especially aluminum. How I went thru life without it is a mystery. And dont give me that shit about it never being to late, it is.

Electricity generation.

Sure, you can power up a refrigerator from a micro hydroelectric set up on your 10 acre homestead with a spring head and a 50' drop, but the process of creating copper wires, winding them around a magneto and connecting them to an alternating current regulator seems like magic to me.

[–] 1 pt

at one point in time it was magic. very cool tho.

Fine carpentry to make beautiful things among the feel and smell of wood.

Choice is yours. It really is never too late to drop a bead down between some fucking metal. My suggestiong on a good start. Read welding symbols and learn different types if ypu dont know. Butt welds, t joints, flare bevel, full pen vs partial pen, cracks, roll over and various defects. Start with decent equipment and im sure you can start gluing within less than a year

Shit, I could get people making decent MIG weld in less than an hour. A month of practice and they'd be hire-able.

It really isnt that hard. Im no welder but i do a lot with welds with the product we make. i learned a lot about welding in years time just being involved with various things. Usually spec heavy jobs in the pressure vessel and pipelinel. Things like hardness, xray, ut, mp, lp, HAZ,, sour service and low temp applications. a lot is easy to pick up.

You say that My welding teacher in high school.would disagree.

I am assuming someone reasonably intelligent...

I aint talkin about backyard welding. And yeah by the time I got really good at it at this stage it would be to late.

[–] 2 pts

Backyard welding is all you need to know practically speaking. Welding as a job is shit. Especially the chemicals, gases and other hazards that FUCK you up if you're exposed to throughout a career.

Did you miss the aluminum part? And I kinda meant for my own use but I have been exposed to all kinds of shit from asbestos to round up.

[–] 6 pts

Clock making. That shit is impressive.

[–] 4 pts

I have a far-out link for you.

https://ciechanow.ski/mechanical-watch/

[–] 1 pt

Cool link, thanks for sharing. A couple of years ago I was really interested in mechanical watches, this makes me want to get one even more now.

[–] 1 pt

What a cool website. Even shows current time. I think brain surgeons could aspire to be clockmakers

[–] 1 pt

Awesome. Watching the wristwatch revival channel from time to time and this explains the various parts really well.

[–] 1 pt

From time to time

That struck me a lot funnier than it should have.

[–] 5 pts

butcher, that may be a handy skillset at some poinr

[–] 2 pts

That's one I would like to learn as well.

[–] 2 pts

Ditto. Going to raise some beef and hogs once the fences and water lines are in. Ill be forced to figure it out as i go, like i did with the broilers last month. Learn by doing.

[–] 1 pt

Im envious, god speed to you sir

[–] 1 pt

I used to think about having a butcher shop.

The Art of the Blade

[–] 3 pts

Yeah, i was gonna say surgery too.

[–] 5 pts

Ninja skills would be pretty cool.

[–] 1 pt

Yes they would, what would you do with them though?

[–] 2 pts

Steal trinkets from the homes of the uber wealthy. Nothing very expensive, just frivolous bullshit that will leave them scratching their heads.

[–] 2 pts

That's actually a good use in my opinion.

[–] 0 pt

what would you do with them though?

Cool badass shit

Plumbing. Or tiling.

[–] 3 pts

That shit's easy. No pun intended.

[–] 2 pts

3 laws of plumbing:

1 shit flows downhill 2 payday is Friday 3 don’t chew your fingernails

So easy even you retards can figure that shit out

[–] 1 pt

serious man observes a working plumber; "ah.. you like to plumb?"

plumb the depths.. the depths of hell.
