Female attraction is always based on status. The only variable is the particular woman's perception of status. Status is judged by how many people consider you their superior, so your apparent status is obviously a function of how many of those people are part of her social circle.
Funnily enough, this means that as soon as you start pining for a woman, you are signaling that you believe your own status is lower than hers, which dampens her interest. If you ignore her, it means your status is so high that you don't feel obligated to cater to her whims, which makes her more interested.
If you think about it, women are trying their best to help us out here, in their own way. They keep nagging you constantly about any number of obviously stupid and self-contradictory shit. Of course they're really hoping you'll just say no. Problem is a lot of men think they're supposed to go along with it, and even try to force other men to go along with it.
Of course, self-advertised status only goes so far, unless we're talking about drunk one night stands here. At some point, you need to have actual status to back it up.
