This should be a private industry, like bounty hunting or pest control. A competitive service industry. Better service at lower prices. No tax money required.

I would like to tend to my property. Have a small veggie garden, and some chickens. Maybe some other animals as long as it stays manageable. Ideally I'd produce enough for my family and me and some extra for trade purposes.

I often day dream at work or on the long ride to and from work that I'm mending a fence at home or building a chicken coop. Man wasn't meant to slave away the best years of his life just to provide for his family.

I had a couple of alternative career paths that would have worked for me. I could have been an architectural engineer -- I have a natural sense of where stresses are in structures, and how to optimize buildings. I could have been an industrial designer -- I also have a natural sense of what works and what does not work in product design. Sometimes I think I would have been all right if I'd chosen to becomes a craftsman -- fine carpentry would have suited me, I enjoy cabinet work. But I'm happy doing what I was born to do, so I'm not complaining.

I'd be back in research; developing assays and software applications to optimize record clarity.

After I realized I'd spend all day begging for money not actually doing anything productive I lost a lot of motivation.

And now, I'm internal affairs catching chinks faking data and wasting government money.

Eh, could be worse.
