I'm at my folks house in the country and I heard the sound of little feet running around either in the attic or in the wall. what do you think I can use to bait them and kill whatever the noise is? I don't think it's field mice, could be a pack rat or maybe chipmunks but it's at night and chipmunks aren't night creatures.

Look up how to make a bucket trap. Basically you take a 5gal bucket and fill partially. Put a smear of peanut butter inside the bucket above the water line but out of reach for mouse from the top. They fall in and drown.

You can kill mice at industrial scale with these. It is an old farm and ranch favorite.
