I'm at my folks house in the country and I heard the sound of little feet running around either in the attic or in the wall. what do you think I can use to bait them and kill whatever the noise is? I don't think it's field mice, could be a pack rat or maybe chipmunks but it's at night and chipmunks aren't night creatures.

Get some glue traps and bait them with peanut butter. Oil makes the glue not stick, so only use a tiny amount of peanut butter, not enough to mess up the glue.

Isn't there something they can eat, which will then kill them when they go back to their nest?

Do you want something decomposing in your parents walls?

They're going to eat poison and then die in the wall or attic and stink up the house. I'd try and take them alive

The rat poison used in bait traps usually makes the poor buggers extremely hot before they die, so they naturally head outside to cool off before dying. Then it kills a few birds and raccoons who ate the tainted meat. Poison is a messy business and should be avoided when possible.

Mousetrap/Rat Trap idea is what you need to do; but I'm going to modify it slightly. Get a hot glue gun, and glue a peanut or cashew onto the trigger, then put peanut butter on that.

The rodent will smell the butter, come and start licking it, recognize the nut, and either grab it, or take a bite and die.

If you just put the butter on the trigger itself, they won't set off the trap anywhere as often.

Don't put out one or two traps, seed the house, garage and patio with dozens of them.

Check your dryer exhaust vent seal, and door weather seals.

Usually we use the largest size snap trap and jam a peanut unto the fold to ensure a good tug. Never considered hot glue.

Also: be sure to check the trap daily to reduce the stink and potential damage.

Yeah get a bunch of them, Amazon has em by the 36 pack, they work great

It's probably a mouse.

There's lots of ways to get rid of mice.

The bucket trick works really well for mice and rats.

Install an Owl box and close off their entryways.

I have no idea where they are coming in from. They used to have owls and hawks in the area. Zero rodent issues. Funny how that is.

We had that here, same reason, we live in the country, and there are critters. I used some stuff called "Just One Bite," and it solved the problem nicely. They eat it, and it makes them leave to go find water. They never came back. No dead vermin in the walls, no idea where they died, but no doubt that they did.

Look up how to make a bucket trap. Basically you take a 5gal bucket and fill partially. Put a smear of peanut butter inside the bucket above the water line but out of reach for mouse from the top. They fall in and drown.

You can kill mice at industrial scale with these. It is an old farm and ranch favorite.

They like cheetos.
