Good pizza is hard to come by in my area. I've tried about 15 different local pizzerias and most taste the same and I usually find something wrong with them, like the sauce is too sweet, cheese tastes off or too greasy, not enough toppings or shitty toppings, dough is too thick even though I asked for thin crust - There's just always something off. The top rated pizzerias are usually expensive, around $25 for a decent pie. I even have the same problems with frozen pizzas, yet my all time favorite frozen is Home Run Inn because the crust is pretty good.

I worked in a pizzeria for about year and the owner was New York and he made the best pizza I've ever had. I tried my best to recreate it but it never came out as good as his. Unfortunately he passed away and the shop closed after only being open for 12 years - he was a staple in the area and won awards. Not the most pleasant guy to work for, but he had people lining up outside after bar close and would sell out almost every night.

Am I gonna have to travel to NY or NJ to get really good pizza?

I also regularly watch the One Bite Pizza Reviews by (((Dave Portnoy))) and most of his reviews are on the East Coast.
