what about infections you can't seem to shake?

Western medicine isn't there to cure your illness. It's there to manage symptoms. That retains you as a paying customer.

They'd probably prescribe a steroid for an infection.

The big problem with that is the pharmaceutical industry....which puts zero effort into finding cures, and optimum effort into securing lifetime customers (i.e. addicts) via 'treatment' drugs that mask the symptoms. Not that doctors are blameless, as most are in bed with the industry through lovefests with pharmaceutical sales representatives.

As strange as it sounds there are some things socialized healthcare systems do really well, like treatment of common ailments and preventative care. Under those systems doctors have an incentive to cure the patient and prevent disease.

What should be done instead?

Address the root cause. Why is your body having so much trouble with an infection? Is there sonething going on that's weakening your immune system?

Death is preferable to a patented drug derived from naturally occurring fungal by-products.
