Did the cops shoot the shooter? If so, they likely shot people nearby too. These casualties are generally added to the shooter casualties, but most cops are really bad shots...if you see any get a gun out just take cover, no matter which direction they are supposedly shooting. A famous case of a guy that escaped custody near me, and about 16 cops opened fire at close range; all emptied their guns and hit him once in the thigh. He was standing still in an alleyway.

The rumor was that a cop killed a student indirectly.
The policeman was in the hall asking if anyone needed help and a little girl called out saying she did. This allowed the shooter to easily gun down the hidden child before they got to him.
A lot of articles had confusing headlines making it sound like a cop shot a student, but in the article that was what was written. So I wouldn't be surprised if people played telephone into saying a cop shot a student.
