Your not going to make enough ethanol without multiples of acres of corn to run a vehicle. Your best bet is wood gas and then go through the Fischer-Tropsch process to refine to diesel.
What is the best vehicle to convert to run on alcohol?
An Irishman. Give him a quart of whiskey and he'll run all day. Mind you, they are an unreliable means of transportation.
Any pre 1972 will work, and do not use corn, worst idea ever, switch grass, beets, and fruits are much easier to convert to alcohol. Only reason we do corn commercially is kick backs to the government
I like this.
Your feet...
Bicycle
Hot air baloon
Look into wood gasification and pine tree fuel. The Japanese were able to make fuel from pine trees. I think it was called turpentine, but Idk if that is the right name for it.
Maybe you can look into an old diesel engine and convert that to run on veg oils. The time and effort to rebuild an old diesel might be worth it these days. Then put that engine into a proper truck.
Woodsmoke gasifier is easier on your engine and rubber pieces than alcohol. Just saying
First, ethanol will require twice the volume to produce the same power. As long as the price differential is favorable it's worth a try as long as you can always be sure of having a supply when you travel (however far that is). Carbs need bigger jets to pass the increased volume of alcohol needed for the mixture. vaporization is poor in cool weather so very hard to start. Next, consider what happens to alcohol prices/availability when food starts getting scarce due to fertilizer etc. Fuel production will be the first thing cut to produce food. Finally, wood gasifiers are a huge PITA to use. They were used some in Europe during the war years but one would have to be pretty desperate to go to the trouble. If you believe the system will remain intact enough that you will be able to buy bulk fuel and want something cheaper than gasoline, you might do the math on an E85 vehicle. You might be able to mix you own cheaper than buying at the pump, especially if the ethanol is untaxed. I'm not sure the price differential is enough to make up for the reduced energy content so quite literally YMMV.
Anything old with a carburetor. Overhaul the carb with a modern overhaul kit…the elastomers will be more tolerant of ethanol. You’ll have to drill out the jets to get the proper mixture.
Also consider running on some percentage of gasoline. Vapor pressure of ethanol is very high…vapor locking may occur.
Ethanol has very high octane rating…don’t forget to advance the spark timing to take advantage of the 100+ octane rating.
This is a seed. Don't interact with this post.
A seed? What do you mean buy that? I'm asking an honest question for myself and others who want to have a vehicle when the gas goes away.
