I think it is a weird thing I picked up in India, which they in turn they probably picked up from the British.
But over there only boys and poor people wear shorts. Men wear pants, no matter how hot it is.

As I've gotten older, I've pretty much stopped wearing shorts except for exercise anyways. They do look way less serious than well-fitting pants.
