God was testing his faith and his loyalty. Which is why God stopped him at the last minute. The point of the story is that Abraham was willing to do anything for God

So "yes". Abraham's God requires you to be willing to kill your own children with your own hand. He may save your kid, but you have to be willing and you have to tie him up and bring your sharpest throat-cutting knife.

Abraham was the father of all gods people. It was a much different test for him then it would be for a normal person. And since then, new covenants have been made and things are much different than they were in the Old Testament

I don't disagree with what you're saying, and I'm not some rabid antitheist or atheist, but the story of Abraham has always rubbed me the wrong way. The teachings of Jesus make a lot of sense, but the idea that the very first covenant included a child sacrifice (whether the child was metamorphosized into a goat or simply whisked away to heaven) has never been one to inspire faith in me.
