God was testing his faith and his loyalty. Which is why God stopped him at the last minute. The point of the story is that Abraham was willing to do anything for God

So "yes". Abraham's God requires you to be willing to kill your own children with your own hand. He may save your kid, but you have to be willing and you have to tie him up and bring your sharpest throat-cutting knife.
