Looking for something I can put in the nursing home where step mother in law put father in law against wishes of the family. Waiting to hear back from lawyer regarding options. In the meantime, been visiting and notating. Would like to have, at a minimum, some audio. The facility is fine, but we’d prefer he die in a home setting surrounded by loved ones.

Don’t want to use facility’s WiFi, but also want it to record. Tech dumb. Any input and/or links to a product that might fit would be greatly appreciated.

There is no way raspberry pi doesn’t contain back doors as well. But it would be a pain for them to actually tap in to what you were actually doing. As it would be a manual effort.

You probably want to look at spy cameras geared at professional Private Investigators .. things with sd storage and no wi-fi .. pen cameras and such.

I use Axis cameras at home (some have cloud bullshit, but I keep them on a physically separate network). I don't think Axis has spy camera type options though.

You could put a regular laptop in a corner and tape up the web camera light; have it stream continually to a private channel on a paid service.

It’s an understatement to call her a piece of shit. Long history. Just sad to see the old man dying in a strange place surrounded by strangers. POS step mother in law is 20 younger than old man. No reason she couldn’t care for him in the place he has financed. When questioned why she didn’t get in home help, reply was because she didn’t want the intrusion. Un fucking believable.

Yes, that’s exactly what we’ve wanted from the beginning after we realized she was not going to care for him, not because she can’t, but because she won’t. She’s 18 years younger than father in law and ready to move on.

I would suggest a ring camera, but I'd catch hell for pimping amazon. but, they have cloud service for around $100 a year, you can put as many cameras on it as you like. videos are saved on the cloud and you can pull them up from anywhere in the world monitoring from you phone. I have an echo show and my cameras linked to it through Alexa , any motion brings up the camera that detected the motion. the cameras aren't expensive. the only downside is the wifi you don't want to use.

Definitely want to consult a lawyer on this one. It will depend on the state. Technically my main concern would be battery life though you can continue to visit them to replace/recharge it. There are some creative ways you could hide it.

Exactly. We are there every day, so replacing batteries not a problem. Do need to hide it, though. And yes, not until lawyer weighs in. Just trying to get ahead of the curve.

Do it anyway, no matter what. At best you have actionable legal evidence. At worst you have blackmail material with righteous actionable anger. Be discreet. Get father in law in on it if he is capable. 2 party approval that way.

Option 2: infiltrate the organization by becoming a janitor. Your cover is that you are mentally handicapable. Every day you bring your emotional support radio in to work, setting off the alarms. Security checks it out and finds nothing. Oops I iz tarded. Then on d-day you smuggle in all the gear you need inside the radio. After so many times the security becomes complacent and does not check the radio. YOU'RE IN!

You take pops to the basement where you cut into the sewer system. You put him into an inflatable canue. Only room for one, but you know where the current will take him. You set up a retrieval system down the pipe. Only one chance to catch him or he goes into the waste management facility. Will you make it, or is pops up shits creek without a paddle?!?!

You can buy voice activated recorders.. just be sure to hide it well and you'll have to also retrieve it.

These only capture audio.

You can get nannycams that don't transmit over wifi. rather, they record and store on a hard disk. Again, you'd have to retrieve it.

Thanks for the reply. No problem retrieving it. It may be the way to go. Purchased a ‘spy cam pen’ today. Not opposed to voice only device. I’ll check them out.
