Literally the best possible thing if you wanted to prosecute people for high treason is that you get them to do it so braizenly.
There have been 25 people convicted of treason if the wiki list is complete. 7 were pardoned, annulled, released, etc. So of the 18 remaining only a few were executed.

How could he have stopped it? He didn't have the power to change election laws, which are set by the individual states. He couldn't stop it without being called a dictator. The entire structure of the Deep State wanted him to lose, and were not going to help in anything he proposed. Same for the media, and the Supreme Court. He just had to watch it happen.
