There are a lot of people who probably aren't up to carrying a gun. Blacks are too emotionally reactive and violent. A large portion of the population is mentally unstable, although they hide it for as long as they can. Then there are the paranoids, fearful of everything and sure others are watching them and out to get them. Who wants these people to be able to carry guns?
The problem is, a gun is the only way they can possibly defend themselves against attacks from street thugs, and there are more and more street thugs every year. Are we going to take away Granny's only defense against the mugger who eyes her purse every time she goes to the bank, just because Granny is nervous around strangers? It's a tough call to make.
One thing is clear enough. Society, the government, the justice system, have failed the common people and no longer offers them sufficient security from violent crime. Take away the gun, and most of the people become fat geese waiting to be grabbed and plucked by a fox. Their politicians have let them down, but Smith and Wesson never will.
