True story: In February, 2003 - As I Lay Dying stayed the night at my very first apartment less than a week after I moved in - They played at a park pavilion about less than a mile from my place, and they gave me a few shirts, hoodie, 2 cds and a bunch of stickers for hosting them in my tiny efficiency apt in the middle of winter. They said they would've gotten a motel room for $50+ but wouldn't have much money to eat since they would need it for gas to get to their next gig about 9 hours away.
3 years later they were on tour with Slipknot and came to my city - I got the full on VIP treatment plus met almost all the guys in Slipknot except for Craig (5) & Mick (7). Paul (2) was really nice & down to earth. (RIP) Corey and I bonded over Spider-Man comics & Sid played some killer drum n bass for me in his & Chris' dressing room - Chris was a bit of a dick, but apparently it was because he had an ulcer.
That's actually really cool.
I'm getting into "old metalhead" territory these days, but feel fortunate to have seen As I Lay Dying on their first "main stage" run in December of 2005 when they released Shadows are Security. Clint Norris was still on bass at that time.
Mastadon, they are fantastic https://www.kerrang.com/watch-mastodons-super-trippy-performance-at-the-adult-swim-festival
It's only 5 songs, just watch it! Great shit!
They just played my city a few weeks ago with Opeth, but I had to work.
Didn't they do the opening for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie?
95% of my library is metal, and I can't really answer that question; all of the bands are different or "heavy" in different ways.
Current rotation has been Bryan Eckermann, The Devils of Loudun, Orbit Culture, and Shadow of Intent. All four are pretty damned heavy.
Choice albums from each, respectively:
Like 15 years ago I realized pretty much every cd and mp3 I’ve ever owner were jews. I don’t really listen to music anymore.
Depriving yourself of music entirely because "da jooz" is pretty fucking pathetic dude
Recommend some tunes.
Bob “Dylan” - The Times They Are A Changin’
old Slipknot
Beethoven . That’s what is really heavy. Not all these talentless metal posers who just play loud, distorted and scream. They don’t really articulate anything musically that is emotionally heavy. Just gimmicks trying to make up for their inability to write melody and harmony.
The funny thing is metal takes most of its inspiration from classical music.

Some Slayer, Megadeth...
For some reason I've just recently gotten into Megadeth. Only like 3.5 decades too late.
I think a lot of it was realizing that Mustaine is unabashedly fire-and-brimstone religious.
Archspire. Best technical out there
Solid taste! Their old name was better, though. You ought to check out The Artisan Era record label; they've been on a roll cranking out high quality tech-death bands lately.
