Looking for a WhatsApp alternative that I can use with my family who are borderline retarded. My whole family except for me uses an iPhone. I'm going into Canada this summer and will not have access to my traditional telephone so when I still want to keep in contact with my family and an occasional friend so I'd like to be able to do for free audio calls texting and video. Is this even possible for free?

Right now the two best are considered to be Telegram and Signal.

I have no idea. I don't use messengers because they ask for your phone number.
