I know for a fact its very common for people allow the pursuit of forum points dictate what they will and will not say. Why are internet points desirable? I've never understood why people like to collect them as in reality they mean nothing. Is it for forum cred? It just seems really feeble to me.

Points is a proxy for acceptance by the community. People seek to be accepted.

That, and they have no other community IRL.

No friends or family to show them unconditional love. No professional validation. No religious community to surround them.

So many things have been stripped from the average man.
