I played a little bit online a few years ago, but gave up after I realized that the main path to getting better is memorising the opening book. Not my idea of fun. There's still a lively community though.

I taught my almost ten year old how to play when she was seven and we still play about once a week. She's steadily getting better. One of the challenges I give her is I restrict the pieces she can use. For example one game I will tell her she can't use knights, sometimes no bishops etc which forces her to think outside the box when playing and get creative.

I love chess. while, i am by no means a chessmaster, it is a great game.

maybe might consider adding a games feature with java or flash chess. that would be dope, as the kids say..

You're best bet is to play online unless you have a friend to play with.

I was taught as a child by an elder. I honed my skill in jail. When I got out I was unable to find any one worth playing. I resorted to online play but they were all too good. Now I don't remember all the knowledge I built up and there for have no desire to play.
