The only time you should fight is if you have no other alternative. Once shit kicks off you don't know if your opponent has a blade , or a firearm. That being said , if you must defend yourself , commit. You have to make up your mind you will go all out , and not stop until the threat is neutralized.
If Police show up , keep silent , except to ask for an attorney. I'm serious , even if you are attacked without provocation , STFU !
When you speak to your attorney , tell him you tried to deescalate , and get away but got attacked. You felt your personal safety , and quite possibly your life was in danger and protected yourself.
commit
Once you're in, you're all in, to finish it as quickly as possible. It's not like the movies. It's dirty. It's finished. You walk away and go home. You survived.
Yeah , it's not an mma match or karate tournament , it's life or death.
Well said. Will add though…”threat neutralized” for me would be “unconscious” or “dead”. And when speaking to your lawyer: “You felt your personal safety , and quite possibly your life was in danger and protected yourself,” could be: “I was running for my life because he said he was going to kill me”
My cousin got into a beef with me when his ex girlfriend sent me to pick up her personal stuff. Clearly it was her stuff. Just woman things. It wasn't even stored where he lived but in a building where his stepdad gave her permission. But nooo, he couldn't let her have those items and he tried and failed to throw me on the ground then tried to choke me and failed. Next day a police detective is asking me if I hit my cousin. "oh, yes sir I did hit him, and hard!" Cop, "How many times did you hit him?" Me: "I didn't really count. I just kept hitting him in the face till he stopped choking me." Cop: "Oh, well, thanks for your time. " "Click, ZZZZZZZZZZ (dial tone)
Man…that could have turned out bad.
Right on all points.
If your attacker was holding a knife or any other weapon you might want to point it out to the cops at the crime scene. Cops can miss these things and you're going to have an uphill battle arguing self defense if the cops say your attacker was unarmed, especially if you used deadly force.
I still say just stfu to police. Once you start talking , it's easy to say more than you intend , especially when the adrenaline is pumping
