You don't actually need a key to run windows 10. Just has an annoying message at the bottom right. The message bothered me so I spent $5 for a key on ebay. I know these sellers aren't entirely above board as it's not directly from microsoft but I get no annoying messages telling me to activate and would just plead ignorance if ever asked. The download is straight from microsoft and the key is just a string of numbers they email you. I'd just drop a couple bucks but that's me. Plus if the key doesn't work you can get a refund easily through paypal. The guys doing it are trying to build good reviews on those accounts. Sometimes they even offer to refund the cost of the key for a good review.
My son has an unactivated version with that nagging box on the machine I built with him. That would bug me too much. I think I'll try what is suggesting first.
Yeah it's annoying. If that doesn't do it keys are cheap on ebay. I prefer doing clean installs myself.
Same here with the clean installs.
If nothing else, this will give me an excuse to make sure I have everything backed up. My C:\ is a SSD which was just supposed to have the OS on it, but I think I ended up with a bunch of other junk on there too over the years.
I'd totally grab him a key too. Like I said. Super cheap on ebay.
