Treating your animals like shit and raping the land won't get you far if everyone is doing it.
I'm from Europe so we don't have Amish here, but every time I would see footage of them I would get strong gypsies vibes.
They're generally rooted to a local area, but most orders turn away from modern conveniences in their homes. Some orders are really strict about what they allow their members to have, but I've heard of more than one order being disbanded because the elder didn't even want wheelbarrows with pneumatic tires to be used, or somesuch nonsense. However, it's not uncommon to see some of the looser orders with cellphones and driver's licenses - they just can't use them in the home. They're more than happy to use things like Kerosene Aladdin Lamps, however, which are most certainly products of a scientific society.
They're as bad as jews when it comes to hoarding money and taking anything that's got a free sign on it, even if they can't use it. They'll call you a picky bastard in Swiss German as they're smiling taking your money (and be sure to check that bundle of lumber because what's in the middle is shit.) They treat their animals like disposable tools, and if you sell timber to them they'll clear cut everthing, take the good stuff, and just leave everything else laying there, making the land look like a waste area.
We call them Blueshirt Niggers and goatropers. Ones that leave the order are jerkedovers.

They also have no concern for what isnt theirs. The biggest litter bugs ever. And youre English so you get the look down the nose look. They will bully people to sell their land to them and they/some also rape their daughters. They buy up every pc of proprty they can get. Mmm..sounds a little like some other cult/religion Ive heard about.
Its a cult...some are good, some are not. But at least they wont starve.
