The problem we are facing is that the singularity event is just on the horizon, like a couple of decades or so. Most of the population isn’t responsible enough to handle these emerging technologies. We have to make the choice to make an evolutionary leap forward (which would include a mass extinction event also), or reject the singularity and take a step back. There is a good argument to be made that the general population doesn’t have the IQ or the ethos necessary to handle what’s coming.
