Sooner or later they're coming for the homesteaders, which they will call preppers or 'nationalists' or some other boogieman word in scare-quotes. And they'll come after the homesteaders because its adjacent enough a move to just avoid a major backlash if they do it right. The kind of move that sets all the precedents the regime needs against 1. gun ownership, 2. self-sufficiency including small scale farming (if or when they choose to exercise that power down the line), 3. all the other groups I mentioned.
