Just looking for suggestions or alternatives to having money in the bank, besides dogecoin, Ethereum, etc..., nor looking to cash-in-mattress either. I wouldn't mind converting to precious metals, but I can't exactly pay the mechanic in gold shavings, so not very practical. Lastly, INB4 "go google niggerfaggotkike" ... I don't trust the Alex Jones advertisement-like sites out there.

If you have access to them, USAA is pretty solid. Outside of that, local credit unions can be good but you need to research and visit local branches.

USAA is becoming crap, they're slowly selling off every division they own (Insurance to Traveler's, Investment to Schwab)
