It has something to do with the erosion of the concept of inalienable rights and the constant inclusion of privileges and entitlements within that definition.
You can't sell potatoes on the side of the fucking road without tax collectors and police harassing you. you have no inalienable rights.
and we wonder why people never grow up or mature beyond entitlement.

We underestimate the suppressive and absolutely corosive effect of a single example of overreach.
People catch on quickly. Don't talk, don't stand, dont even try without asking permission.
and if you do, the answer is no.
unless you're rich beforehand.
Try running a fucking hamburger stand without spending two fucking weeks of your time on paperwork and multiple paychecks filing and sorting it out before you sell a single fucking burger.
and thats how you end up with people resorting to entitlement.
