Low cost of living, low unemployment even during "recessions", short commutes, not very exciting.

Almost all the diversity in Nebraska is concentrated in Omaha, but it's heavily self-segregated. North Omaha is black and not somewhere you want to live by Midwest standards, but is relatively OK compared to most black ghettos. You can walk down the street without getting mugged and the city's response to BLM protests riots was to arrest everyone so much as blocking traffic much less commiting other crimes. And then repeat the process until all the fiesty antifa types were in jail or fled. South Omaha is predominantly working poor Hispanics who're gung ho about assimilating to 'murican culture because they remember how shitty it was elsewhere. Notably safe (minimal gangs or crimes).

One of Omaha's suburbs has a large air base, so there's a hefty population of active duty as well.

Want to raise children in suburbia in a McMansion on a budget? Try Omaha or a couple hours south in Kansas City. They're pretty similar.

Want exciting "stuff" like hiking, oceans, and poop in the streets? Try the coasts.

KC already seems pretty exciting to me, I wonder how it compares to Omaha.
