It's not like alcohol. Go cold turkey with all media.
Set the goal and follow it through.
It'll seem left-handed for a few days, but just keep telling yourself the break will make you the person you want to be. When you start to falter, slap yourself and read a book or shoot a target or work on the fencing.
In a week-10 days tops you'll have the urge under control, and you'll be doing all those things you always thought about doing but never did.
And if you spend a month off tv, the next time you view it, you'll be shocked at all the nlp you never noticed before.
You know I can sort of understand what you mean. I did a 7 day water fast and the same could be applied to that. At first, ravenousness, then content. By the end breaking the fast was as difficult as starting it.
We all have the strength inside to do stuff like this, we just have to apply it.
If there are rough spots, hang tough and ride 'em out. Conquer that shit.

I fast at the first hint of illness.
I had to go "off food" for a couple of weeks due to a stomach surgery, and dealing with the very, very real withdrawal symptoms I got was easily on par with when I quit smoking. But, just like with smoking, it did pass, and I felt surprisingly good for the rest of the time I wasn't able to eat. I even had a difficult time bothering to eat everyday for a good while after I had recovered. I only got back into more "normal" eating habits to keep my protein levels up without those shakes.
