I guess I have dreams and nightmares that have similar themes, but I'd never describe them as the same dreams, or as recurring.

Another one I used to get was the one where I'm enrolled in class but for some reason I either forgot I was enrolled and wasn't going, and now it is the end of the semester and I have to make up for missing class, and I'm about to fail the class or lose credit.

Heard this was a common one with lots of people.

The story is always the same, but the room is always different.

I wouldn't describe it as a recurring dream, because it is so different every time, but I often dream about getting kicked out of school and having my father re-enroll me as a freshman in high school, but I'm always my current age...

Yeah that's what people mean when they say reoccurring dream.

If a caveman hunts Mammoth, he will dream of a Mammoth killing him.

I don't think it is a recurring dream if it is based off your worries, hopes, ambitions, or relationships.

I was more thinking a recurring dream is the same dream every night.

But I guess the people talking about having the same dream every night aint so good using they word to describe thing.

Yeah, I've had this same dream many times.

this is the exact plot of countless dreams i've had.

Yes. I got this one and I'm at this peninsula with hotels and casinos and a theme park with roller coasters and each dream its in the same area but a different place nearby. Sometime the storyline involves adventures of gambling , or arcade, and other time it involves elevator to hotel room or various antics involving the hotel. In each dream it involves a different cast of acquaintances, or how I am traveling to get there along the peninsula. Sometimes dramatic. Mostly fun.

The dreams are different but the "place" is frequently the same.

Well that sounds like a fun night's sleep.

I've recently just realised something about dreams.

If you are having a shitty dream and you wake up, but you continue to feel stressed, throw your duvet off to cool down and get comfy again

it turns out for me that bad dreams are just my subconscious telling me that I'm too hot. The exact second my body temperature goes down, the stress goes away.

I'm kinda annoyed that it took me this long in life to make the connection, so see if it works for you

I like my bad dreams and I like my good dreams.

Especially when I wake up in the middle of a nightmare, I often try to go back to sleep as quickly as possible, just because I want to know how it ends.

[–] 2 pts

I can't do that any more, I'm a bit more conscious of making sure I'm happy as possible by removing everything stressful

I do like that half awake feeling where the brain is still uncluttered from daytime trivia, it is just such a productive state for problem solving

Whenever I'm thirsty at night I'll have dreams where I'm chugging water, happens every single time. I'll chug a whole water bottle or even a gallon jug and get frustrated because it doesn't quench my thirst, so I'll get more water and keep drinking and feel weird because I'm still thirsty after drinking so much water. Then I wake up thirsty and feel amused about my dream, drink some water while awake, and go back to sleep and dream something else. It's so funny, like I stop whatever I'm doing in my dream to get water, and it doesn't work, so the dream becomes all about drinking more and more water.

I have PTSD, I used to have a nightmare with a recurring theme, but it wasn't exactly the same thing every time.

I have a recurring dream where I wake up in a place I lived 20 years ago and I have to get ready for work but there's no food in the fridge and the bathroom is gross and nothing works. There's only very minor differences each time. Like sometimes I use the disgusting toilet sometimes I take a shower or bath and sometimes I don't. Also the contents of the fridge are different each time, also sometimes I just skip work and watch movies with my dad or play video games with my brother.

I've had deja vu (sorry, probably spelled wrong) in dreams many times. It's hard to tell if it's recurring dreams or just part of a dream.

I've had sleep paralysis several times though and that's been very similar multiple times.

[–] 1 pt

Déjà vu is a French loanword, which literally translates to:

Nigga, I seen this shit before!

What was the sleep paralysis like? I've had it before...

I'm always in my bed, usually the bed I feel asleep in but some times the bed where I grew up or my old bed in the barracks. I'm also always alone at first and there's a severe sense of dread. Some times someone will come into the room and watch me or slowly moves towards me. I can't scream or move and the dread starts to intensify. Usually I know it's a dream by now but that doesn't help break out of it. So I thrash around and try to scream until I wake myself up. Usually that leaves me pretty panicky and I try not to fall back to sleep right away because I've had it happen to me back to back.

Ingraine this in your head. Wiggle your toes.

That will get you out of sleep paralysis.

I have a recurring dream riding a motor bike

As a child, a recurring dream about a big old apparently abandoned house on a hill. Scared the shit out me but don't know why I was there. Never went into it. Seventy years later and I can still picture that damned house.

[–] 0 pt

What did it look like?

[–] 1 pt

Two story, dark with no color anywhere. Blacked out windows. I was always lower down on the hill. Very desolate damned place.

what sort of architecture?

I have a recurring dream where I am standing on the Amur river between China and Russia. The river is frozen over and its late at night, the north bank is just an endless forest and on the south bank a chinese city is lit up with lights in celebration of chinese new year.

[–] 1 pt

Chink or Russian, or just a random guy who dreams of rivers?

I have trouble remembering dreams so it’s hard to know

[–] 1 pt

That's ok, I'll remember your dreams for you.

[–] 1 pt

I’ve had a lot of dreams where in the dream I remember previous dreams, and they are either immediate precursors to that dream or have purpose in the current dream.

However despite having many dreams like this I don’t think I’ve ever technically proven that I’ve actually had the previous dream.

[–] 0 pt

That sounds weird.

If you have the time, I'd like you to elaborate.
