Personally I think it was kind of a soft reset. They got a lot of people to shift societal norms over 2 years and reevaluate what they want from life. Definitely shifted perspective on a lot of things.

Looking at the last few hundred years, i dont see any examples of them failing so significantly like you describe and i find it unlikely that they are starting now.
