Years ago I walked out of a bar pissed off at the “friends” I thought I had there. And I had a few realizations.
First, I realized I never heard from those “friends” when I wasn’t in the bar.
Second, I realized my consumption of alcohol had never brought me money nor gotten me laid.
And that was the end of the binge drinking period of my life. Just like that, with those realizations in mind, I walked away from the bar, and mostly from alcohol (still drink a little - very little - on special occasions), and started working on myself. First I worked on discovering who I was by pursuing activities I truly enjoyed (more archery and shooting, loading, coding, cycling, lifting, boating (I lived on a boat at the time), and other things). But I focused on me. Then I worked on really improving myself both physically and mentally.
And all of that worked very well to catapult my life forward to the successes I have today.
Alcohol is good. But it is not nice to you. If you aren’t able to enjoy it on a very limited basis then you should stay away from it entirely.

Can you imagine what America would be like if nobody drank alcohol, took mind-altering or emotion-altering drugs, and refused all medications for depression and other emotional conditions? And if pornography were completely banned? Crime would drop down to about 20% of what it is now, even crime committed by niggers. Suicides would decline. Work production would skyrocket. Family income would go up, savings would increase, debt would decrease. There would be fewer divorces. Children would have better childhoods. School grades would improve. Well I can dream, can't I?

Had the same realization and almost exact same experience years ago. The truth is misery loves company and most people have no idea about their internal self-happiness or purpose in life. They act as lemmings marching off a cliff and rely on alcohol as a way to numb their buildup of anxieties.
Until people become confident in themselves, their purpose, and their ability to socially interact around people without alcohol, they should avoid it until then.
