Can and should, I agree. How ever, I was referring to bring ripped off by a friend and coworker who I had known for many years. It got ugly. But yes, even though she was a friend and coworker and it felt awkward I should have been more careful. One thing that her brother told me gave me insight into her character. She took $30,000.00 out of her home construction funds and gambled it away in the casino then kept the loss secret from her common law husband. People addicted to gambling from my experience are usually delusional and dishonest about money.
That's why I avoid doing any kind of business with friends or family.
Yep, it's an issue. Neighbor wanted me to remove five small stumps along her fence line. I told her $250.00 minimum and she rejected my extremely kind offer as being too expensive. I pointed out that's only $50.00 per stump with one of them being 20" across. Hand digging out is time consuming and laborious. I already cut down and removed the stump for a fruit tree and carted off the wood for $175.00 which is more than generous considering she was happy to pay a contractor $800.00 to do similar work on a messy tree in her front yard. Also refill the hole with dirt I pack down and take over. If she asks me again I will agree to do it for free if she promises to stand by and take directives until the job is complete. Renege on that and it goes up to $300.00 instantly. Her problem is she has no appreciation of the amount of hard labor involved and I'm no longer willing to spend my time and sweat on other peoples property for peanuts. Until she understands this she can look over the wall and admire my lush lawn while stumbling around weed infested yard.
