favorite were van heusen slacks - wool/poly blend, wear them everyday. were as in, they've changed the recipe to be more generic, so i haven't bought any in years. i still wear the same pairs i bought some 10 years ago, the only things that have failed on them are back pocket buttons and the stitching in the cuffs. I have even hiked in them, not walking nature trails, off-trail hiking in the SoCal desert.

I used to love Dickies, but they went so downhill in the past few years.

Looking for something that is good for work, but also semi-acceptable in a casual office setting.

I understand; I used to love Dickies too - when they broke in they were the most comfortable pants (shirts too). I haven't worn Dickies since 1999 though. I am not certain what work you do though, slacks may not be a great recommendation, but it's one that I stand by; must be a wool blend though. Beyond that, any type of fabric that used to be used for BDUs 20 years ago (a type of rip-stop cotton blend) is a recommendation I'd also give. I hate denim and will never wear it or recommend it.

Yeah, definitely no denim. The type of nice jeans I could be comfortable wearing in a semi-formal environment are also the type of jeans I wouldn't be comfortable fucking up when I have to do actual labor.
