Depends on how much you have to mow. I have about half an acre of grass if you include the road frontage of my property that I mow. Have an old ride on with a Honda engine. Reliable, starts first time and the mower is low enough tech that I can repair any part of it myself (no gearbox or hydrostatic drive etc). It was my grandfather mower. He would have got it in the early 90s I think.

We have a sears mower that is from the late 80s. Still works even after being tipped into a pond when SpouseAnon got too close to the edge 2 yrs ago.
