Electric
Fuck You!

Goat is not an option or is that this too touchy of a subject?

[–] 10 pts (edited )

Goats do a good job as long as you don’t have things that shouldn’t be eaten, like flowers…

Gas lawnmower will last you a decade or two if maintained minimally, electric…. Better price replacement batteries, know in a year or two you will need them, and the whole thing will need replaced within 4 years. Likely after doing that math you realize it’s a bad deal.

[–] 4 pts

This, and have fun with battery management.

If you ever let the charge drop below 20%, either from storing it in the winter or mowing too long, your battery will lose capacity. If it goes to 0% for a long time, you fuck the battery up. Oh, and if you charge it above 80% or store it plugged in? Guess what, you lose battery capacity.

Electric can refer to the vastly superior corded electric.

[–] 1 pt

I bought the extended five year warranty plan under the theory it will crap out in four and I can replace it for free.

[–] 3 pts

You know it will crap out in 4 years and 364 days

[–] 1 pt

Smart, I don’t think those stats have caught up with them yet, they’ll learn…

[–] 4 pts

A goat is a good option

be aware that a gota eats everything, especially the nice flowers that you have planted

[–] 3 pts

Theyre also mischievous and love to find breaches in your fence, then you may find them on your neighbor's car.

[–] 2 pts

A goat will eat the trees as well, at least the parts it can climb up to. But they are clever animals and make good pets.

[–] 2 pts

Mexicans are the superior option.

[–] 2 pts

I am glad that is not an option for me, yet, but it would be handy to have some cheap labor every now and then from the local box store.

[–] 0 pt

Have you checked home Depot? Can usually find a few there

[–] 1 pt

Electric or gas Mexicans?

[–] 2 pts

I usually just give them Tecate

[–] 1 pt

They bring their own tamales.

I got electric because I can use the same batteries I use for my power tools. but my yard is small enough to accommodate it.

If it was a medium or large lawn I would go with gas probably.

[–] 3 pts

This is the correct answer. If you have a small lawn then an electric mower is less maintenance and fuss. If you have a larger lawn then slogging around a heavy battery is more of a pain in the ass that the lighter fuel density of gas.

[–] 0 pt

Spot on.

Not sure what they have stateside for electric. But overseas I have Makita. And it works pretty good. Charge and go.

[–] 1 pt

Same, I have two dozen Dewalt 20v tools, and a weed-whacker that uses the same battery. Takes me 20 minutes to 'mow' the yard.

[–] 3 pts

Nice. DeWalt is what I grew up with. Living overseas I had to switch to Makita. Still good quality. Lawn mower, weed whacker, drill, etc. They have me sold.

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

DeWalt is mostly overpriced big box shit now. They still make some good stuff but the value isn't there. I'm partial to Milwaukee, Makita, Hitachi, Delta, and Echo, depending on which tool. For in house brands, Lowes' Kobalt 24v power tools are really quite good and underrated, IMO.

Personally, I'd choose modern Ryobi over modern Dewalt any day.

[–] 1 pt

Just don't buy the 20v vacuum, I returned that weak shit the next day.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah, if you can do all your mowing in 20 minutes, batteries will probably be fine. More than that and you need gas.

FWIW, I have a reel mower as well, but I can only really use it if I'm mowing 2x a week, or the grass gets too far ahead of me. (North Texas.)

[–] [deleted] 5 pts

Gas. The electric guys are faggots.

Starts up immediately each spring. I only have a small section of grass around my house. It takes maybe 15 minutes to cut.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

Faggot

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

Don't pull your cord too hard buddy. You'll go blind.

[–] 0 pt

Electric is for fags. If you can't crack the bottom of the float bowl every spring and flush out all the crap you are not a man. If you can't pull start your mower in two pulls you are a sissy fag who can't handle internal combustion engines and shouldn't be allowed near them because you lack the most basic maintenance skills. This includes you faggots who think you are mechanics because you have a fuel injected car.

[–] 4 pts

Depends on how big your garden is and how often you want to cut.

[–] 1 pt (edited )

Hallelujah. And the clippings go straight into the compost pile. We had 1/4 (about 50sqft) for the garden.. realized I could mow less with more garden so I added another 20sqft to it. Reconnoitering this year and I'm considering adding another 20sqft; this would use up most areas in the back that are not directly under shadow from the pine tree or in the floodplain.

To OPs question: gas. When we get a bigger pad with a bigger yard, we are also considering solar-powered robotic for upkeep/maintenance

[–] 1 pt

I put in a small orchard last year expanding a 12x4 garden spot for herbs to near 1/4 acre fenced. I have a little over an acre around the house, rest of the 5 are woods. I mow maybe 3x in summer before the heat starts killing everything. Weed whacking is more frequent. We have two mowers both gas. Once is a riding mower and the other to trim.

[–] 1 pt

o0o0o solar powered garden robot

[–] 3 pts

I picked up a scythe so I can get a bit of exercise and don't have to rely on gas. That or goats.

[–] 2 pts

Depends on how much you have to mow. I have about half an acre of grass if you include the road frontage of my property that I mow. Have an old ride on with a Honda engine. Reliable, starts first time and the mower is low enough tech that I can repair any part of it myself (no gearbox or hydrostatic drive etc). It was my grandfather mower. He would have got it in the early 90s I think.

[–] 1 pt

We have a sears mower that is from the late 80s. Still works even after being tipped into a pond when SpouseAnon got too close to the edge 2 yrs ago.

[–] 1 pt

If you have to ask you should probably hire someone.

[–] 1 pt

Bought an old house on a half acre lot. 1st year paid a guy to mow every other week. The coof stimulus check bought me a riding gas mower. One season of mowing paid for itself vs. what i was paying the lawn guy.

The ONLY proper way to cut your lawn is with neither:

If you are too much of a pussy to push a lawnmower around the yard then this is acceptable:

Why would you listen to me? pic related https://pic8.co/sh/jOOz8j.jpg

[–] 1 pt

What type of grass is your lawn? It looks great.

[–] 0 pt

It was laid down 3 yrs ago as sod, the grower says that it is a mix of different grasses designed for European climates so I really couldn't tell you. That pic is from last summer btw.

Nice yard mate.

[–] 1 pt

It's a lot of work but it's worth it.

[–] 1 pt

If your lawn is more than a 1/2 acre or so, gas is your best option. The batteries don’t last like they claim. Get one with a Honda engine and it will last forever. Honda makes a good push mower with a Honda engine of course. They are very nice. They no longer make riding mowers. Don’t get a Husqavarna. Even with a Honda engine, the body is junk.

[–] 0 pt

I voted fuck you because it was an option.

If it's a real question, how big of a yard, etc. would need to be volunteered to make much of a recommendation.
