I was having a bet with my buddies that Steve would be dead before the year was over as he was constantly pushing boundaries with dangerous animals. Getting way to close, touching and just disrespecting them and invading their personal space with his showboating. I won the bet.
There's an awesome Smarter Every Day video where he talks to a marine biologist stationed with Steve and it's one of the best interviews ever.
We all looked at Steve as a funny moron. Glad you won the bet haha.
Link to the video in case you haven't seen it and might be interested.

I don't agree with Steve or this man. Steve was a show boater and all I got from his shows was how he disrespected wild animals and set a horrible example. I love nature shows and highly value wild animals for many reasons.
The worst thing you can do with a wild animal is get too close, stress them or invade their space. Making a show out of doing just that pissed me off so much I refused to watch after a few episodes. I was actually hoping he would fuck up really badly just to end the stupidity. "I'm a trained professional" really pissed me off. Really? Trained by whom? Your dad? Professional show boater that got himself killed.
