Any urbanised population becomes highly pussified and dependent on the state. For some reason countries like Canada and Australia are associated with outdoorsmen, hardy rural people, but in reality the populations are highly urbanised compared to many places in Europe. I believe Australia is over 90% urban populated, the Crocodile Dundee / Steve Irwin stereotype is a total myth.
