You can use internet search to match the face that typically is found where the person claims to have ancestors come from. Keep in mind that Ashzkenazi Jews that no longer want to affiliate with that Jewish religion usually claim to be atheist or agnostic, change their name and were likely to have had a family connection with positions in the communist government (of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Lithuania, etc).
