Vermonter here, Vermonters are strongly independent by nature. This is a people that split from NY and NH, even becoming their own republic for a short time. We love our history and people like the Green Mountain Boys and Ethan Allen remind us of the role Vermont played in America's independence. Many people live by the pioneer phrase "use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without", disconnecting from the need for a new car or house because the current one is "old". You're going to hear comments about it being hugely democratic, but it's also a constitutional carry state that loves craft beer, and the outdoors. Though the state is dem leaning I expect you will find there are lots of people that better align with libertarian and just don't realize it. Be sure to get familiar with the taxes as it's something many are surprised by when moving here.
